For the cover of Otis Redding’s Pain in My Heart, I combined digital drawing and photography to capture the emotion and energy of the music. I created this textured style album cover with the idea of growth at its core, using leaf forms to represent that growth, while the intricate, vein-like details reflect how deeply love can fill the heart with both emotion and pain. That intensity shows how love can hurt, but also how it allows for growth over time, something Otis Redding expresses beautifully throughout the songs in Pain in My Heart. My other design processes draws on a variety of experimental techniques, including plasticine imprints, layered collages, leaf prints, chalk swirls, and film soup. Each element was carefully crafted to create a rich, tactile, and visually striking cover that reflects the soul of the song.
